Segala kenangan manis yang dijalani bersama-sama mesti dilupakan, ditinggalkan sepenuhnya. Hati harus dikuatkan. Menjalani kehidupan sendiri menjadi pilihan.
“Coffee” yang begitu saja tercipta di sepucuk hari kala Leanna tertimpa gelisah, paradoksal senang-sedih, kontradiktif pasif-agresif, mencoba meyakinkan kita bahwa perasaan duka tak mesti terus diratapi. Bahwa duka seyogianya dirangkul, dipeluk saja, terbuka diterima.
Selain mengandung pesan positif—hidup tawakal dijalani, badai pasti berlalu—lagu setengah riang ini juga menjadi semacam pertanda bahwa Leanna serius mengakrabi Indonesia, Sabang-Merauke adalah rumahnya kini. Tahun lalu, 2016, misalnya, merupakan masa paling lama perempuan blasteran Amerika-Filipina ini tinggal di Indonesia. Lebih dari 1 tahun tanpa jeda. Di “Coffee” pula Leanna mulai memasukkan secuplik lirik berbahasa Indonesia.
“Saya senang mendengar ketika orang berbicara dalam Bahasa Indonesia. Tentu saja saya girang saat menyanyi dalam Bahasa Indonesia. Bagi saya, semua pengalaman itu terasa alami dan cair.”
"Saya masih belajar agar bisa lebih lancar, makanya saya hanya memasukkan satu verse saja sebagai permulaan,” ujar Leanna semringah.
Pun “Coffee” menegaskan pekatnya “Selera Nusantara” di diri Leanna sebab seluruhnya direkam di Bali serta para partisipan adalah musisi anak negeri yaitu Noriz Kiki (drum) serta Edi Pande Kurniawan (bas) dengan melibatkan produser sakti mandraguna Dadang Pranoto.
